Gold Membership Not Needed

Players will get to experience a multiplayer online Xbox service that isn’t subscription based as the need for an Xbox Live Gold membership will be removed during the event.

But from Xbox’s announcement, it is almost clear that the free-to-play event has not yet started, and it is absolutely certain that it is time-limited.
